EdgeTabs ("we," "our," or "the App") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app accesses, how it is used, and your rights regarding your data when you use EdgeTabs on your Mac or Windows PC.
1. Information We Collect
EdgeTabs is a local desktop utility, designed with privacy at its core. It does not collect personal information. The following are created or configured by you and stored only on your own computer:
- Your Files & Folders — EdgeTabs displays and manages the files inside the folders you choose to pin to your screen edges. These files always remain on your own disk.
- App Configuration — Tab names, colors, edge layout, item sizes, and other preferences you set within EdgeTabs Settings.
- Thumbnails & Previews — Generated on your device to display file previews, cached locally and never transmitted anywhere.
2. How Your Data Is Stored
All EdgeTabs data stays on your computer. App settings are stored in your user account — on macOS at ~/Library/Application Support/EdgeTabs, and on Windows at %LOCALAPPDATA%\EdgeTabs. The files shown in your tabs are simply the real folders you selected on your own drive. We do not operate our own servers or databases, and your data never passes through our systems.
3. Data We Do NOT Collect
We want to be clear about what we do not do:
- We do not collect, access, or store your files or personal data on any external server.
- We do not track your location, browsing activity, or app usage behavior.
- We do not use analytics, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics SDKs.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties.
- We do not display advertisements in the app.
- We do not collect any data from children. The app is not directed at users under 13.
4. File Access & Permissions
EdgeTabs only accesses the folders you explicitly choose to manage. On macOS, access is granted through the standard system file-permission prompts (using security-scoped bookmarks) so the app can reopen those folders on your behalf. On Windows, EdgeTabs accesses the local file system using your normal user permissions. EdgeTabs reads file names, dates, and thumbnails solely to display them to you — this information is never transmitted off your device.
5. Purchases & Licensing
EdgeTabs is distributed through the Mac App Store and the Microsoft Store. All payment processing is handled entirely by Apple or Microsoft. We do not collect, process, or store any payment information, credit card numbers, or billing details. For information about how they handle your data, please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy and Microsoft's Privacy Statement.
6. Clipboard & System Integration
EdgeTabs uses your operating system's standard clipboard for Copy, Cut, and Paste, and moves files to the system Trash (macOS) or Recycle Bin (Windows) when you delete them. These actions happen entirely on your computer through the operating system; no clipboard or file content is sent to us or any third party.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
Because all data is stored on your own computer, you have full control at all times. You can remove files, tabs, and folders within the app, delete the EdgeTabs settings folder, or uninstall the app entirely. Your actual documents remain in their original folders on disk unless you choose to delete them.
8. Your Rights
Because EdgeTabs does not collect or store your data on our servers, your data is always under your control. You can:
- View, edit, or delete any data directly within the app or in your file system.
- Revoke EdgeTabs' folder access at any time through your operating system's privacy or security settings.
- Uninstall the app and remove its settings folder to delete all associated data.
- Request information about our data practices by contacting us.
9. Third-Party Services
EdgeTabs does not use any third-party analytics services, advertising SDKs, or external APIs. The only third parties involved are Apple and Microsoft, solely for distributing the app and processing purchases through their respective app stores.
10. Security
Your data is protected by the security features built into macOS and Windows, including full-disk encryption (FileVault on macOS, BitLocker on Windows). We recommend keeping your operating system up to date and using a strong account password to protect your data.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
